- Choosing a new and a good school or college can be a very exciting time for your child or yourself. However, it can be quite difficult to select one, especially if you're in high school.
STEPS
/ Ask around. You may have friends who already have children in a particular school- find out from them. You may want to consider enrolling your child into the same school.
/ Travelling time. To be sure that your child is on time, calculate the amount of time it takes for you to travel to and from the school.
/ Research. This cannot be stressed more. If you want to find a good school, you need to look out for what they have achieved. Consider the following:
/ Have a look at the school's overall achievements in national examinations (for example, GCE 'O' Levels or the GCSE).
/ Co-curricular achievements. This is when you look at your child's co-curricular strengths. Is s/he good at sports? Then take a look at what the school's sports teams have achieved.
/ Let your child pick! Make a list and have your child pick a school that they want to go to. Then proceed to the next step.
/ Take a look at when the school's intake is. Some schools take students in at certain times of the year, while others accept students all year round.
/ Enroll into the school and take entrance exams if there is a need to. This applies to some private schools.
/ Most importantly, enjoy your new school and have fun!
